Serving People in Need
Deacon Frances Mutolo and the Loving Ministry Group oversee our compassion ministries. In our part of Colorado Springs, we work closely with Northern Churches Care, an ecumenical outreach organization for the northern end of the Springs.
One of our core values is Servanthood. We live this out in a variety of ways in our church. Here is a sample of the kinds of compassion ministries that we do:
- Collecting school materials for children in need.
- Gathering baby items for single mothers.
- Collecting and sending out shoe boxes of toys and other items for Operation Christmas Child.
- Collecting food for Northern Churches Care for needy families.
- Serving the Lord's Dinner to the homeless. We share the second Sunday of the month with our sister church, St. Michael.
- Participating in our diocesan outreach program for the people of Haiti.
- Participating in Kairos, a prison ministry in Canon City.
- Special offerings at Christmas and Easter for local, national, and international assistance for people in need.

Prayer Chain
The Church of the Good Shepherd has a Prayer Chain. This is a group of individuals who have agreed to pray for any who request prayers. When a prayer request is made, the members of the Prayer Chain are notified by email. If the prayer request comes through the website, the request will be acknowledged.
FAQ:
Do I have to be a member of Good Shepherd to submit a name?
How do I ask for prayers?
How much information do I have to provide?
-
Only as much as you are comfortable giving. For example, a first name, the reason for the prayer request, such as healing, etc., or simply “for one in need of prayer”. Whatever information is provided will be passed on to the members of the prayer chain.
How long will the person remain on the Prayer Chain?
-
It is helpful to indicate how long you want the individual to be prayed for –throughout a pregnancy, during a hospitalization, during deployment, etc.
-
Names are left on the prayer list for as long as requested.
-
If no specific time is indicated, the prayer request will be in effect for one month.
What happens when a name is submitted?
